Mailbox Decoration Contest

___

For months now, the days have been shrinking and the nights stretching longer. Imagine ancient people fearing the sun might vanish forever! But then, the winter solstice arrives, reversing the trend and sparking immense relief and joyous celebrations. Throughout history and all around the world, people have celebrated the “return of the light” with midwinter festivals. For most of us the celebration of Christmas brings an especially meaningful and joyous feeling. Joy to the world!

Tradition

We put up traditional bright decorations and lights, and we hear the familiar songs of the Christmas season everywhere. In Southern Gables last year you might have noticed a new trend: lots of neighbors extended their holiday decorations to their mailboxes. There was a reason for that!

Mailbox Decoration Contest

The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than by bringing our community together for a fun and festive community activity with lots of participation. Holiday Mailbox Decorating Contest!

How It Works

  • Decorate Your mailbox. Get creative and deck out your mailbox with holiday cheer! Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or simply the winter season, use your imagination!
  • Email photos of your mailbox, your address and your contact information to [email protected] no later than December 20, 2024. (If you don’t email, call Marci at 303-319-3177. I will come take the photos and get you entered!!) We’ll have our panel of judges vote and notify the winners by December 22, 2024.
  • Prizes: 1st Place: $100, 2nd Place: $75, 3rd Place: $50.

Here are some tips

Just kidding. Not like this…

Use weather-resistant materials to ensure your decorations last through the season. Don’t obstruct the operation of the mailbox opening. Be mindful of safety, especially with lights and other electrical elements. Most importantly, have fun and let your creativity shine! We hope you’ll join us in spreading some holiday cheer and making our neighborhood even more festive.

If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to reach out to Marci DeMott, 303-319-3177.

Warm wishes and Happy Decorating!
