Summertime! Great Time for Block Parties
The Southern Gables Neighborhood Association loves to encourage community spirit and neighbors getting together. We sponsor summer block parties, with a payment of $100 to Southern Gables neighbors who host a block party in July or early August.
Summer is a season that calls us outdoors, drawing us from the confines of our homes to sunshine and the camaraderie of neighbors. It’s a time when the rhythm of daily life slows, replaced by the leisurely chatter of neighbors catching up over impromptu barbecues or evening strolls. The scent of flowers and freshly cut grass mingles with the aroma of grilled food, creating an atmosphere where shared laughter and easy conversations flourish. Outdoor gatherings become a staple, where children toss water balloons and draw with sidewalk chalk, and adults unwind, swapping stories under the fading light. In these moments, fences seem to disappear, and a sense of community blossoms, reminding us of the simple pleasures found in shared spaces and the joy of forging connections that transcend the boundaries of our own homes. One way of getting these good things going has become a Southern Gables tradition….
Block Parties!
To apply for a Southern Gables Neighborhood Association block party grant, first please read the suggestions in our article, You Can Host a Block Party! and then let us know by emailing us at [email protected]. After the party, let us know how many families you invited and how many people showed up. We will write you a check for $100. If you like to write and have some stories to tell, or some photos to share, send them to [email protected]. We will include them in an article here on the Southern Gables Neighborhood Association website.
The City of Lakewood also has a grant program for neighborhood projects and events, including block parties. You can find requirements and the application at lakewood.org/GTgrant.
