Better Together
The opening of a new school year is always exciting, but this year the event takes on added luster after last year’s difficult challenges of stay-at-home orders and hard choices. Green Gables Elementary School Principal Suanne Hawley tells of the opening day excitement and sets a fitting theme for the year, “Better Together.” Related to that theme of being “together,” Principal Hawley announces a community event — for all, not just school families — scheduled for next month at the school campus.
Dear Southern Gables Community,
As I enter my sixth year serving as principal at Green Gables Elementary School, I continue to feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful neighborhood community. Much appreciation to all of you who support Green Gables! We remain centered on our school vision of “Leading, Learning, and Growing TOGETHER!” Our theme this year is “Better Together.” Green Gables is truly an amazing neighborhood school and one in which you can be very proud!
We officially kicked off the 2021-22 school year with our old tradition where all students and families met outside to start the first day and students paraded in the building along the “Golden Road of Opportunity.” It was such a wonderful celebration to welcome students back in the building, particularly after the ups and downs of last year due to Covid-19. All students and visitors are wearing masks indoors, due to the public health order, but we are all back together again and it’s going to be an amazing school year!
On another note, have you noticed our community school garden? It has grown into a beautiful and fruitful space over the summer. Thank you to all of our community members who have helped to take such special care of our school plots over the summer so our students can begin to learn and work outside. They will be so excited to see what has grown and some will begin to plant fall crops.
I hope you will be able to stop by the Neighborhood Night Out on September 24th between 5:00-7:30. This is a wonderful outside event in partnership between Southern Gables Neighborhood Association, Green Gables Elementary and our Green Gables PTA. There will be spaces to sit and visit, some booths of interest, games, and free food! It will be a great event for all ages!
On behalf of Green Gables Elementary, I welcome you to reach out and come see for yourself what a truly amazing school we have right here in the neighborhood. We are always looking for more volunteers and we welcome new students and their families.
Warm Regards,
Suanne Hawley
