Southern Gables Book Club Selection for November

___

Mailman by Stephen Starring Grant is “An exuberant, hilarious, and profound memoir by a mailman in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, who found that working for the post office saved his life, taught him who he was, gave him purpose, and educated him deeply about a country he loves but had lost touch with.”

Design showing several books, the top one with pages spread open Stories connect us not only to the past, but to the world today and to each other, By sharing our own interconnected stories around a table of friends, we strengthen the bonds that make a community vital and worthwhile. Stories are “tricky creatures, useful for many contradictory ends: they could both commemorate and conjure the past; could separate insider from outsider; could proclaim innocence or guilt; could be a mechanism of theft or of deliverance. Stories could disappear someone into the oblivion of a prison cell or bring someone else back from the dead.” 1
