Trees for Lakewood

___

I love living here, don’t you?  There are lots of reasons, but there is one that comes and goes with the seasons. That particular reason been gone for months now, but springtime will bring it back – the infinitely uncountable beautiful shades and tones of one color…

Green!

Lakewood boasts of having over 7,400 acres dedicated to parks and open space, over a quarter of the city’s total area. Our established neighborhoods, such as Southern Gables, contribute even more to the tree cover. It all makes for cleaner air, relief from summer heat, and a better environment for all of us. But as with many things (not all things!)…

More is better.

Here in the Denver Metro area we are surrounded by large outlying developments, and some infill ones too, with bright, sunny, bare new landscaping of spindly, fresh-planted trees. That kind of environment doesn’t appeal to me. I do realize though, that trees grow. The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. That long ago, and farther back in time, the people who moved here planted the trees we enjoy today. That brings up the second best time to plant a tree. The second best time is now, to plant the trees that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

Knock knock. Who’s there?  Opportunity!Graphic: Citty of Lakewood

This is the third year that Lakewood is offering a terrific deal, to encourage increasing the tree cover of our area. A single bargain price, a flat fee of $25, for trees worth up to hundreds of dollars.

Order online or by phone starting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2. You need an online account (same one as for Rec Center classes) and you will be able to pick up your trees on April 18.
