Monday March 23 – Save a Life
___
Thanks to the support of Crossroads Senior Care, one of our Southern Gables Selected Business Supporters, our neighborhood has an opportunity to make a real difference close to home. Their sponsorship of this upcoming blood drive is a reminder of how local partnerships can have life-saving impact that starts right here and goes far beyond our streets.
Red Cross Blood Drive Monday March 23, Jewell & Garrison.
A critical blood shortage is unfolding across the country, and it’s one our community has the power to help address. The American Red Cross reports that the national blood supply has dropped by about 35% in just the past month, creating a severe shortage. At the same time, a widespread flu outbreak is keeping many potential donors at home while placing additional strain on hospitals. The result? Medical teams are being forced to carefully ration, or “triage,” the blood products they have on hand.
Nationwide, winter weather in the eastern half of the country is making matters worse. Last month alone, about 400 blood drives were disrupted by storms and freezing temperatures, leaving thousands of donations uncollected. With more winter conditions expected, the gap between supply and need could grow even wider without immediate action.
Blood donations are essential for a wide range of patients – trauma victims, people in cancer treatment, people living with sickle cell disease, and mothers facing childbirth complications. In these moments, access to blood can mean the difference between life and death.
The reality is simple: blood can’t be manufactured. It can only come from generous donors willing to roll up their sleeves and give about an hour of their time. One donation can help save more than one life, making it one of the easiest and most direct ways to make a real difference in someone else’s world. Certain blood types, including O, A-negative, and B-negative, are especially needed right now. But all eligible donors can help.
Our neighborhood blood drive is an opportunity to be part of the solution. If you’re able, consider making an appointment, showing up, and encouraging a friend or neighbor to do the same.
Small acts of generosity ripple outward in powerful ways. Giving blood is one of the simplest – and most meaningful – ways to care for others when they need it most.
Make an appointment. It’s not hard to do. It doesn’t take long. It makes you feel good about yourself. To sign up you can click the big Red Cross below, use the QR Code, or call 1-800-733-2767 and use sponsor code CornerOfHope.
